Albanese is the first Australian PM to hold the post
Anthony Albanese has become the first Australian prime minister to get engaged while in office, revealing on Thursday that his partner had accepted his marriage proposal on Valentine’s Day. He and Jody Hayden—a financial services professional—have been together for three years.
Albanese said he proposed on the balcony of his official residence, known as the Lodge, after a romantic dinner at an Italian restaurant. “She said yes,” Albanese posted on the X social media platform along with a love heart symbol.
The first-term prime minister said he had planned both the date and location of the proposal and even helped design Hayden’s diamond ring. But they did not know whether the wedding would take place until the date of Australia’s next election was decided.
