Another child died, death toll now two

A seven-year-old boy, one of the 20 people killed by lightning during the ‘Shiv Baraat’ procession in Kota on March 8, has died of burn injuries, police said on Wednesday. Police gave this information on Wednesday. He said that the boy Saman breathed his last at MBS Hospital in Kota on Tuesday night, taking the death toll in this incident to two.

He said Saman’s grandfather, who was jailed in connection with the incident, was brought out on parole for a few hours on Wednesday for the last rites.

Eighteen children and two others, who were taking part in a ‘Shiv Baraat’ procession on the occasion of Mahashivratri, suffered burn injuries after they were electrocuted by an overhead high-tension power line in Sakatpura area under Kunhari police station limits, he said.

Superintendent of MBS Hospital, Dr. Dharamraj Meena said that Saman suffered about 50 percent burn injuries in the electrocution incident. Meena said, around 10.30 pm on Tuesday night, the boy developed respiratory problems and was given CPR, but could not be saved.

Kunhari police station in-charge Arvind Bhardwaj said the body was handed over to the family members after postmortem on Wednesday morning.
