Boxer Vijender Singh joins BJP before Lok Sabha elections 2024

Boxer Vijender Singh joins Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024. He was inducted on 3 April at the party headquarters in Delhi in the presence of party general secretary Vinod Tawde. After joining the saffron party, the boxer was heard praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Vijender Singh said that PM Modi has promoted sports and he has made this change to “serve the people”.

The boxer told ANI,I have joined BJP today for the development of the country and to serve the people.”

According to PTI, at a press conference after joining the party, the boxer said that joining the saffron party is a “homecoming” for him and added that it is good to be “back”.

“It’s a homecoming of sorts for me. it’s good to be back. Ever since the Modi government came to power, the kind of respect players are getting across the world is commendable.”

It is noteworthy that India’s first Olympic medalist in boxing was earlier a part of the Congress party, who had contested the Lok Sabha elections 2019 from South Delhi constituency but was unsuccessful.

According to a PTI report, Singh’s name was in the news for the past few days as the party was considering fielding him from Mathura for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Outgoing MP and actor Hema Malini is contesting re-election from the Uttar Pradesh seat. On BJP ticket.

According to PTI report, Singh comes from the Jat community which wields political influence on many seats in Haryana, western UP and Rajasthan.
