Congress has performed better so far than it did in 2019; but why hasn’t it done better yet?

This time the Congress lost the seat to eminent cardiologist Dr. C.N. Manjunath, who is Deve Gowda’s son-in-law. Manjunath made his debut in electoral politics on a BJP ticket and has thus become a big leader.

The 17:9:2 figure of political parties is a repeat of the performance of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Since 2004, the Congress party in Karnataka, which previously sent the most MPs to Delhi, has failed to improve its performance and has struggled to reach double figures. Congress won eight seats in 2004, six in 2009, nine in 2014 and was reduced to just one in 2019, with the BJP winning a majority and the JD(S) getting a 3 to 2 lead each time.

The nine seats won by the Congress this time are:

Kalaburagi, from where AICC president Mallikarjun M. Kharge’s son-in-law Radhakrishna Doddamani is contesting

Priyanka Jarkiholi, daughter of Minister Satish L Jarkiholi, won from Chikkodi

Minister HC Mahadevappa’s son Sunil Bose wins from Chamarajanagar

Raichur, which elected retired bureaucrat G. Kumar Naik

Koppal, given to K. Rajashekar Basavaraj Hitnal

Bidar, from where Minister Ishwar Khandre’s son Sagar Khandre will reach Parliament

E. Tukaram has won from Bellary, he is the current MLA, who will need to be replaced

Davanagere is going to Prabha Mallikarjuna, wife of Minister S. Mallikarjuna

and Haasan, who, despite requests from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chose Shreyas Patel Gowda over Revanna and his antics.
