Congress says betrayal of mandate will not be allowed

There was political turmoil in Himachal Pradesh after the BJP secured the sole Rajya Sabha seat in the recent elections, as six Congress MLAs reportedly switched sides to join the BJP and former Chief Minister Vikramaditya Singh resigned from the cabinet. In response to the crisis, senior Congress leaders Hooda and Shivakumar arrived in the state to hold talks with party members and prevent a change of power.

Congress, which has 40 MLAs in the 68-member assembly, is facing challenge from 25 BJP MLAs. The remaining three seats are held by independents.

Speaking to the media in Shimla, Sukhu on Wednesday said he has not resigned as Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister even though his government is at risk of losing majority following alleged cross-voting by Congress MLAs in the Rajya Sabha elections. He said, “I am a warrior. I come from an ordinary family. We will win this battle and also prove majority in the Assembly.”
