Donald Trump’s youngest son Barron withdraws as Florida representative, citing prior commitments
Former US President Donald Trump’s youngest son Barron Trump has refused to be a delegate from Florida to the Republican National Convention to elect his father as the party’s presidential candidate, according to a BBC report. The mother’s office said.
The Florida Republican Party announced on Wednesday that 18-year-old Barron Trump is among the 41 delegates named for the convention to be held from July 15 to 18.
The BBC reports that as a delegate, Barron Trump would have stood at the convention floor and joined the Florida delegation in formally nominating his father.
However, a spokesperson for Barron’s mother Melania Trump said, “Although Barron is honored to be selected as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declined to attend due to prior commitments.”
It’s unclear whether Barron Trump, who graduates from high school next week, will attend the convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Barron’s half-siblings, Donald Jr., Eric and Tiffany, on the other hand, will serve as delegates for Florida, where Donald Trump lives and is a voter.
Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump, who previously said she would not be a part of her father’s re-election campaign, and her husband Jared Kushner have not been confirmed as participants of the Milwaukee convention.
Unlike his father and other members of his family, Barron Trump has stayed out of the limelight and his mother is said to be very protective of his privacy, the BBC reports.
The 18-year-old attended a private school in Maryland during his father’s tenure as president from 2016 to 2020. He is the only son of Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
During an interview, Donald Trump said that Barron liked politics. “It’s weird. He’d tell me sometimes, ‘Dad, this is what you have to do,'” he told Philadelphia’s talk radio 1210 WPHT.
Donald Trump is currently busy with his first of four criminal trials, where he has been accused of falsifying business records in New York. He has denied any wrongdoing.
However, the judge has allowed him to attend Barron Trump’s high school graduation ceremony on May 17.
