Election trends show Modi’s moral defeat: Congress
After the BJP fell below the majority mark in the latest trends, the Congress on Tuesday said it has become clear that this would be a crushing political and decisive moral defeat for Narendra Modi.
Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections is underway, BJP has emerged as the largest party but has not got the majority.
Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: `Exit polls have been completely exposed`
Exit polls released on Saturday predicted that Prime Minister Modi will retain power for a third consecutive term and the BJP-led NDA is expected to win a massive majority in the Lok Sabha elections.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X that the exit polls have been completely exposed – they are a “complete sham”.
“Trends for all 543 seats are now available. The following has become clear: This will be a massive political and decisive moral defeat for Shri Narendra Modi,” Ramesh said.
He said it has also become clear that, “the exit polls prepared by them have been completely exposed – they were completely fake.”
Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Early Trends
Initial trends in the counting of Lok Sabha election votes on Tuesday have thrown up a disappointment for the BJP-led NDA. The party appears to be losing heavily in its strongholds of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, though it is expected to form the government with around 290 seats.
Despite significant gains in Odisha, Telangana and Kerala, the BJP fell short of the majority mark with a lead of 240 seats, providing some relief to the party after its unexpected losses in the Hindi heartland.
Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Counting of votes begins at 8 am
Nearly 642 million people voted in the Lok Sabha elections held in seven phases over a period of six weeks. Counting of votes from postal ballots began at 8 am amid tight security.
Counting of votes for 175 assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and 147 assembly constituencies in Odisha and by-election results in 25 assembly constituencies has also begun.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to come to power for the third consecutive time while the opposition under India Bloc is trying to wrest power from the ruling party.
