Former US President Donald Trump asked by New York court to pay over US$350 million in civil fraud case
Former United States President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay more than $350 million in damages by a New York judge in a civil fraud case. In the final ruling related to the case handed down on Friday, the judge also banned Trump from doing business in the state for three years. The former US President criticized the court’s decision, calling it a “complete sham”.
According to the BBC, Trump has denied fraud and is expected to launch an appeal, which would put the decision on hold until a higher court reviews the case. To avoid paying the fine or having his personal assets confiscated, he still needs to deposit the entire amount within 30 days, the BBC reports.
The trial of the case lasted more than two months, with sometimes stormy testimony from 40 witnesses, including former US President Trump himself, his adult children and top executives of the Trump Organization.

In another post on Truth Social, Trump accused Judge Arthur Angoron of targeting him in the case. He described the verdict in the New York case as a “witch hunt” and said that he was fined US$355 million for no reason other than building a “great company”.
