Joe Biden Vladimir Putin PM Narendra Modi Historic Third Term Lok Sabha Election Results

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin have congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Modi is set to form the government for the third consecutive time in the top office after the ruling National Democratic Alliance’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

US President Joe Biden congratulated PM Modi, saying, “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory, and to the nearly 650 million voters in this historic election. The friendship between our nations is only growing as we unlock a shared future of unlimited potential,” Joe Biden said in a post on X.

In a separate statement, the US State Department praised the 650 million voters who cast their votes in the largest exercise of democracy and appreciated their contribution to India’s democratic processes.

The US government statement said, “The United States congratulates Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections. With nearly 650 million voters casting their ballots over the past six weeks, these elections represent the largest exercise in democracy in human history. We commend Indian voters, poll workers, civil society, and journalists for their commitment and important contributions to India’s democratic processes and institutions.”

We look forward to advancing our partnership with the Indian government to foster prosperity and innovation, address the climate crisis, and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region, the statement said.

Russian President Putin said that the voting results have confirmed Prime Minister Modi’s personal high political authority.

A statement from the Russian President said, “Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the victory of the Indian People’s Party in the general parliamentary elections. The voting results have once again confirmed your personal high political authority, your support for the rapid socio-economic development of India and the protection of its interests on the world stage.”

“We attach great importance to our relations with New Delhi, especially the privileged strategic partnership. I am convinced that the interests of the friendly peoples of Russia and India converge in furthering traditional mutually beneficial cooperation and filling it with new content,” the statement said.

Putin further said that he hopes that the two countries will continue to have open dialogue and constructive joint work on current issues of the bilateral and international agenda.

British Prime Minister Sunak said he spoke to Modi and congratulated him on his election victory. “The UK and India share the closest friendship and together we will continue to grow,” the Indian-origin leader wrote in a post on Instagram.

So far, more than 50 world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, have congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the NDA’s victory in the Lok Sabha.

China congratulated Prime Minister Modi on the victory of the BJP-led NDA alliance in the general elections and said that it is ready to work with India keeping in mind the overall interests of bilateral relations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said, “We have noted the results of India’s general election and congratulated the BJP and the NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on their victory.”

From India’s neighbouring and extended neighbourhood, Presidents of Sri Lanka, Maldives, Iran, Seychelles and Prime Ministers of Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Mauritius have sent congratulatory messages to Modi.
