France’s Emmanuel Macron caused a shock wave by refusing to send Western ground troops into Ukraine late on Monday.
Spain said on Tuesday it was against any deployment of European troops to Ukraine after France’s Emmanuel Macron refused to send Western troops.
“On whether we are in favor of deploying European troops in Ukraine, we have already made our position clear and we do not agree with that,” government spokeswoman Pilar Alegría said.
“We must focus on the most important thing, which is to accelerate the delivery of (military) equipment to Kiev”, he said, adding that “unity” was Europe’s “most effective weapon” against Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Macron caused a shock wave late Monday by refusing to send Western ground troops to Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
“There is no consensus today on sending ground troops… but nothing should be excluded. We will do whatever it takes to make sure Russia doesn’t win this war,” he said.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had also rejected the idea of sending troops to Ukraine by European or NATO countries.
