Maratha reservation protest: Internet services suspended in 3 districts
The Maratha reservation protest in the state has turned aggressive since Sunday, leading to a law and order situation. There is a possibility that Jarange’s supporters may reach Antarwali Sarti village of Ambad taluka of Jalna to stop Jarange from going to Mumbai. The workers are on hunger strike in Antarwali Sarti village and while addressing a gathering on Sunday, they announced that they will march to Mumbai to protest outside the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. A huge crowd had gathered on Sunday too, with some people supporting Jarange’s march to Mumbai, while others were raising slogans to stop him from marching alone.
Police stopped Jarange from going to Mumbai on Sunday, however, the activists are adamant in their protest. This may affect peace and create law and order problems. Therefore, curfew has been imposed in Ambad taluka by the District Collector under Section 144 (2) of CrPC from Monday midnight till further orders, PTI reported.
The state legislature last week unanimously passed a bill providing 10 per cent reservation for Marathas in education and government jobs under a separate category. But Jarange is adamant on his demand to convert the notification into law on quota for the community under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category and on ‘blood relatives’ of Kunbi Marathas.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday took a tough stance against Jarange and said that he should not take the law into his own hands, otherwise strict action would be taken against him. CM said, “Don’t test the patience of the government.” While being the Deputy CM, Ajit Pawar criticized Jarange for using abusive language and making allegations against Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Jarange on Sunday accused Fadnavis of planning to thwart his protest and defame Jarange. Jarange also alleged that Fadnavis tried to kill the state deputy CM by using inappropriate words against him.
