NDA meeting will be held in Delhi on June 7, in which government formation will be discussed

The newly-elected MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will hold a meeting in the national capital on June 7, sources told ANI on Wednesday.

According to sources, government formation will be discussed by the NDA, ANI reported.

Earlier today, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recommended dissolution of the Cabinet, whose term ends on June 16.

With potential “kingmakers” Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal-United (JDU) giving the green signal, according to sources, the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi is likely to take place on June 8, ANI reported.

According to ANI, both the parties are expected to submit formal letters of support to the BJP during the alliance meeting scheduled to be held at 3:30 PM today.

As per Lok Sabha Election Results 2024, the Election Commission of India has declared the results for 542 out of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, in which BJP has won 240 seats and Congress has won 99 seats.

The BJP’s win figure is much lower than the 303 seats it won in 2019 and the 282 seats it won in 2014. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong growth and won 99 seats, while it had won 52 seats in 2019 and 44 seats in 2014.

Bharat Block gave a tough fight and crossed the 230 mark, defying all exit poll predictions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term, but the BJP will have to depend on the support of other parties in his alliance – JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.

After counting of votes cast in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP fell 32 seats short of the majority figure of 272. For the first time since coming to power in 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party did not get a majority on its own.

Meanwhile, opposition party India Block will also meet today, with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge calling alliance leaders for a meeting at his home. After seeing favourable results in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, India Block leaders will strategise their next move.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people for the mandate and said the BJP-led NDA will form the government for the third consecutive time and it is a victory of the resolve for a developed India, ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ and people’s firm faith in the Constitution of India, ANI reported.
