Pakistani-origin man burnt alive in Canada, was involved in protests after killing of terrorist Hardeep Nijjar
A Pakistani-Canadian businessman involved in protests following the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was set on fire by an unidentified person in Surrey city of British Columbia province in Canada.
Rahat Rao was set on fire by a man aged 24 or 25 years on Friday. He has been admitted to a hospital and is in a critical condition. According to sources, Rao is not an agent of Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Canadian police have released the photo of the accused who set Rao on fire.
Rao is very active in Canada and has been involved in several protests since the death of Nijjar in June last year.
Nijjar was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey on June 18 last year. His name was included in a list released by the Indian government along with 40 other ‘designated terrorists’.
His death had triggered a major diplomatic row between India and Canada after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last September alleged possible involvement of Indian government agents in the killing of the Khalistani terrorist.
India strongly refuted Trudeau’s claims, calling them “absurd” and “motivated”.
Nijjar’s murder is being investigated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
