Porsche case: Minor accused’s remand in juvenile correctional home extended by a week

The Pune Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Wednesday, June 5, extended the remand period of a minor by a week to a monitoring centre till June 12. The minor is accused of killing two technicians in his Porsche car on May 19 while allegedly in an inebriated state.

The 17-year-old boy was produced before the JJB after the expiry of his previous remand of 15 days and the police sought extension of another 14 days.

In the same case, Pune Sessions Judge V.R. Kachre extended by five days the police remand of the boy’s parents, two senior doctors and a peon of Sasoon General Hospital – all accused in a separate case related to tampering with the blood sample of a minor.

His police custody ended on Wednesday and he was produced before the court, which extended his police custody till June 10.

Earlier, a Pune court had sent the boy’s father, builder Vishal S. Agarwal, and grandfather Surendra Kumar B. Agarwal to judicial custody for allegedly abducting the family driver, pressurising, bribing and threatening him to take the blame for the accident to save their son.

As the investigation into the case progressed over the past fortnight, several shocking details emerged and the involvement of several others, including the boy’s mother Shivani V. Agarwal, came to light.

Accordingly, the Pune police have levelled charges against all the accused for various offences, ranging from vehicular accident to kidnapping, tampering with blood samples and reports, besides nabbing the pub owners and managers who served alcohol to a group of minors on the night of May 18-19, just hours before the fatal accident.

Following nationwide outrage, the Pune Police, the state excise department and the Pune Municipal Corporation launched a massive clean-up drive against bars and pubs violating rules in hotels or restaurants, in which over four dozen establishments have been identified so far and strict action has been initiated against them.
