Pulpit Rock featured in ‘Mission Impossible’ and man dies after falling off cliff
A tourist in Norway died after falling from a cliff that was nearly 2,000 feet high, which was also featured in the movie ‘Mission Impossible’. Police prosecutor Nina Thommessen of the local authorities confirmed to CNN that a 40-year-old man died after falling from the cliff on June 2. An eyewitness said the man slipped and fell off the cliff.
Authorities have not revealed the man’s identity but said they have recovered his phone and identification cards.
“The police are investigating this matter as an accident involving a fall. We have no suspicion that any criminal activity has taken place,” Ms Thomsen said.
Notably, Pulpit Rock, locally known as Preikestolen, is one of Norway’s most popular tourist destinations. The rock plateau measuring approximately 25m x 25m offers amazing views of the surrounding landscape. More than 300,000 nature-loving hikers visit the famous rock formation every year.

Director Christopher McQuarrie previously said in behind-the-scenes footage from the film … “The first time I came out here, I didn’t want to get within 50 feet of the edge. Watching Henry and Tom go over the edge – they’ve done so many extreme things in this movie that I don’t think any of us thought it was as scary as it looked.”
Lonely Planet has described Pulpit Rock as “one of the world’s most spectacular sights”, and it is often ranked near the top of lists of natural wonders around the world.
