Rajasthan: 38-year-old man jumps into lion’s enclosure at zoo, leading to death

A 38-year-old man from Rajasthan was killed by an eight-year-old male Asiatic lion at Sri Venkateswara Zoo on Thursday. Forest Department Officer.

Around 4 pm, Prahlad Gurjar from Rajasthan’s Alwar district came as a lone visitor and entered the restricted area, the officer said.

“Though our animal keeper noticed and warned Gujjar from entering the restricted area, he crossed the six-feet high fence and jumped into the lion enclosure,” Tirupati Zoo curator C Selvam told PTI. ”

He said the male lion, who was performing in the enclosure at that time, killed him.

While the lion did not eat any part of her body, injuries were found intact on her neck, where the animal had bit her, the official said.

Selvam said zoo staff tried to save him but could not.

After the attack, Sher was locked in the night house and the police arrived for further investigation.

The curator said that during the search of the enclosure, the zoo staff found Gujjar’s purse, which contained a bag. Aadhar card and other identity cards, after which they contacted the family of the deceased.

However, he said that no mobile phone has been recovered from the enclosure yet.

Selvam said zoo officials informed the police to handle the matter as it involved the death of a human being.
