Russia has denied any role in the stunt showing several coffins on the Eiffel Tower. Russia’s embassy in France has strongly protested against the ‘new Russophobic campaign’. Russia said the campaign launched in French media was affecting the security of its citizens. On 1 June, three men in a van deposited five coffins wrapped in French flags. The coffins reportedly carried the words “French soldiers killed in Ukraine”. A Bulgarian, a Ukrainian and a German were later arrested in connection with the stunt. French authorities and media speculated that Russia may have organised the stunt. It is in response to Emmanuel Macron’s suggestion that France could send troops to Ukraine or allow it to use French weapons to attack inside Russia. See
