Sandeshkhali unrest: BJP’s Singur strategy?

Senior state police officials present in Sandeshkhali have informally said that attempts to convert Sandeshkhali into Singur on the basis of alleged sexual rape alone may be unrealistic. He points out that Singur was a much more ’emotional’ issue, questioning the existence of the entire farming community. By comparison, the alleged financial and sexual misconduct of a fugitive party leader does not come to light directly.

This has not stopped the senior central leadership of the BJP from making efforts. Union Women and Child Welfare Minister Smriti Irani has been vocal in her condemnation, in which now expelled TMC MP Mahua Moitra has hit back at her.

In a post on X, Moitra wrote: “BJP controlled NCW visited Sandeshkhali and found no reports of rape anywhere. Police are taking action on all other reports of violence. Meanwhile BJP Leader“This is highlighted in their PR efforts to amplify issues with fake propaganda.”

Attached to Moitra’s post is an unverified audio clip, purportedly of a phone conversation between BJP leader Agnimitra Paul and an unidentified person, in which Paul apparently talks about his party’s attempt to convert Sandeshkhali into Singur. Intentions are being stated.

According to local media reports, in a possible attempt to deflate the opposition party, the district TMC unit has formed two internal inquiry committees.

Along with this, the TMC-led Zilla Parishad has taken the initiative to invite all those villagers who have got land on lease in the area but were unable to record it with the Lands and Land Reforms Department, to now do so. For. There are allegations of forcible possession of these land plots by Shahjahan, Hazra and Sardar, who were recently expelled from TMC and are now in police custody.
