Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut claims, PM Narendra Modi ‘lacks mandate’
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, who arrived in Delhi to attend the scheduled meeting of India Block on Wednesday, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party do not have the majority and they want to give an unstable government.
Raut also claimed that the Indian faction has both the mandate and the numbers.
He said, “Where does the BJP have a majority? They are stuck at 237-240. I believe Modiji and the BJP do not have a majority. They want to give an unstable government. It is not Modiji’s job to run such a government. They used to talk of Modi ki sarkar, Modi ki guarantee… If they try to form a government, it will not last. We have the mandate and the numbers.”
Since the BJP does not have a clear mandate, it will have to rely on its alliance partners TDP and JD(U). Taking a dig at this, Sanjay Raut hinted at talks with BJP allies like JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Chirag Paswan.
“Who is in NDA, Nitish Babu, Chandra Babu, there are two ‘babus’. There is Chirag Babu… we will see. People have snatched BJP’s majority and reduced them to 232. They are trying to form a ‘coalition government’. Let them do it, such attempts happen in democracy. Let them go (take oath), if they have the numbers, they will go. We will keep watching, we are getting entertainment, why will we leave our entertainment?…”
Though both Naidu and Nitish have confirmed their support to the NDA government, speculation is rife that the India Bloc is trying to woo some NDA allies in a surprise move.
According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, a significant drop from its 303 seats in 2019. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong growth by winning 99 seats.
