Taylor Swift’s father accused of assaulting photographer in Australia
Sydney:
Australian police said they are investigating a 71-year-old man over an alleged attack on a photographer in Sydney early Tuesday morning. The accuser identified the man as Taylor Swift’s father.
“Police have been told that a 71-year-old man allegedly attacked a 51-year-old man at the Neutral Bay pier at about 2:30 a.m. (1530 GMT Monday) before leaving the location,” police spokeswoman Alicia McCmusty told AFP.
“The young man reported the incident and officers attached to the North Shore Police Area Command are now carrying out inquiries.”
The alleged victim, Ben MacDonald, told AFP the man was Swift’s father, Scott Swift.
McDonald said he was photographing the American pop icon on a “super yacht” in Sydney Harbor after the last of his four shows in the city.
McDonald alleges that Swift’s security held an umbrella over her face to prevent her from taking photographs of Taylor Swift walking down the pier toward a waiting vehicle.
After Swift left, McDonald claimed that a man confronted him and “he punched me in the body”.
“I didn’t know who he was, but I saw pictures and saw him holding hands with Taylor, and he was her dad.”
“It was a shock. This has never happened to me in 26 years,” he said.
Australian police do not generally publicly identify those accused or accused of a crime.
Taylor Swift is currently in the midst of her worldwide blockbuster Erasure Tour.
She is heading to Singapore this week for the next leg of what is expected to be the highest-grossing music tour ever, at more than $1 billion, according to Pollstar.
