TMC’s Mimi Chakraborty resigns as MP, says ‘Politics is not my cup of tea’
Popular Bengali actor and TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty on Thursday said she has resigned from the post of MP, saying ‘politics is not my cup of tea.’
Chakraborty, who became MP for the first time from Jadavpur, went to meet the state assembly in the afternoon. TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,
“Today, I met our party chief. I had submitted my resignation to him on February 13. Over the years, I have understood that politics is not my cup of tea,” she told reporters.
However, it is not clear whether Banerjee has accepted Chakraborty’s resignation or not.
Asked why she submitted her resignation to Banerjee and not to the Lok Sabha Speaker as per rules, Chakraborty said, “Once I get the approval from the TMC, I will submit it to the Speaker.”
