Uproar in Himachal Pradesh Assembly; Speaker suspended 15 BJP MLAs

15 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs from Himachal Pradesh were suspended from the House by Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Wednesday for allegedly creating ruckus in his chamber.

The 15 BJP MLAs suspended from the House include Jai Ram Thakur, Vipin Parmar, Randhir Sharma, Hans Raj, Vinod Kumar, Janak Raj, Balbir Verma, Lokinder Kumar, Trilok Jamwal, Surinder Shourie, Puran Chand, Dalip Thakur. Inder Singh Gandhi, Ranbir Nikka and Deep Raj.

The Speaker of the Assembly had suspended the BJP MLAs after state Parliamentary Party Affairs Minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan moved a motion recommending their expulsion from the House.

Himachal Pradesh Assembly adjourned till 12 noon due to disruptions, with opposition members protesting in the well of the House.

However, BJP has termed it as a move by Congress to prevent its government from falling before the budget session.

BJP’s victorious Rajya Sabha candidate Harsh Mahajan said, “The Congress government is falling. That’s why such efforts are being made – to suspend them. This is a delay tactic and is adopted in every assembly…Congress is finished from here.” It has happened. Now all their efforts will fail. BJP will form the government here…nine MLAs (who cross-voted) are in my support…”

In the latest trouble for the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, state minister and former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s son Vikramaditya Singh resigned from his post on Wednesday.

“I would just like to say that under the current circumstances, it is not right for me to continue to be a part of the government. Therefore, I have decided that I am resigning from the Council of Ministers. I am resigning from the post of minister.” ,” Singh said.

The trouble for the government has come at a time when the annual budget session of the Assembly is going on and the State Finance Bill is about to be voted on in the Assembly.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who is an MP from the state, says that the Congress government has not fulfilled any of its promises.

“Congress formed the government in Himachal Pradesh by making big and fake promises. After the government was formed, none of those promises were fulfilled. When Congress MLAs went to their constituencies people used to ask questions… they did not have any information to give. There was no answer for this… No work was done, Congress’s own MLAs are facing a lot of difficulties… Why did the Congress MLAs leave their own party within 14 months, what was the compulsion? One reason is that they gave the ticket to a non-Himachali person,” said Anurag Thakur.

After the presentation of the budget in the Assembly, BJP is pressurizing for division of votes to pass it. If Congress fails to keep the budget in mind then the government in the state will fall.

In the 68-member state assembly, Congress has 40 MLAs while BJP has 25 MLAs. The remaining three seats are held by independents.
