US family murder-suicide: Indian-origin techie Anand Henry identified as suspect in murder of wife, twin sons before shooting himself

Indian-origin former Meta Software engineer Anand Henry is suspected of killing his wife and twin sons before killing himself with a gun in a gruesome murder-suicide in the US state of California, according to authorities.

Henry, 37, and his wife, Alice Benziger, 36, were found dead in the bathroom of their home in Alameda de las Pulgas on Monday morning, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

A 9mm handgun registered to Henry was found on the bathroom floor along with their bodies.

“Our investigation shows that Benziger died of multiple gunshot wounds, while Henry suffered a single gunshot wound,” police said in a statement Thursday.

Meanwhile, 4-year-old twin boys did not die from the gunshot. He showed no signs of trauma, and authorities have not yet determined his cause of death.

Police allege that Henry was responsible for all four deaths.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Henry worked as a software engineer at Meta and before that, held a similar role for Google. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the Los Angeles Times reports.

According to his profile, he was working in artificial intelligence at the time of his death. According to her profile on LinkedIn, Benziger worked as a data scientist for Zillow.

The couple, who hail from Kerala, studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Police said there was no history of violence at the home – they had only come to the home after the family reported seeing a mountain lion in the backyard.

According to court records, the husband filed for divorce in December 2016, but it apparently did not go through.

But according to the department, when people who knew the family could not contact them over the weekend, police responded to the scene to conduct a wellness check.

Police said the suspected murder-suicide is believed to have occurred on Saturday afternoon.

“Our investigation into the motive for this tragedy continues. Although we cannot undo this terrible incident, we would like to share both domestic violence and mental health resources with our community, because there is help and/or support available, and something like this does not need to happen again,’ ‘ the department said.
