Violence broke out at the public event of former MP Nilesh Rane.

A Guhagar police official said supporters of Rane and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Bhaskar Jadhav clashed with each other, following which the police had to use tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

He said that when former MP Rane was going to attend a public meeting, someone allegedly pelted stones at his car.

The official said that BJP workers gathered at the spot and workers of both the parties started pelting stones at each other. He said that some vehicles were damaged in the clash, police are gathering information about the injuries to the people.

The police are also in the process of filing a First Information Report (FIR), the officer said.

Nilesh Rane is the elder son of Union Minister Narayan Rane and brother of BJP MLA Nitish Rane.
