10 injured in shooting during debate at Florida party, suspect arrested
Ten people were injured in shooting after an argument turned violent at a Florida party venue early Sunday morning.
Neither victim suffered life-threatening injuries, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Deputies arrested a 16-year-old suspect at the scene of the shooting shortly after midnight.
Several shots were fired as a large crowd gathered for a late-night show at Cabana Live in Sanford, about 32 kilometers north of Orlando. The Sheriff’s Office said the injured suffered primarily lower limb injuries.
“The incident began as a verbal dispute that escalated,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Canaday said in a statement emailed to The Associated Press.
A security guard at the venue subdued the suspect who fired the shots, who was taken to a juvenile detention center, the Sheriff’s Office said. It did not immediately say what charges the teen was facing.
According to its website, Cabana Live is a restaurant and venue that rents cabanas and hosts pool parties and other events. A post on its Facebook page on Sunday said it was hosting a private event when the shooting occurred.
“We are cooperating with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and praying for everyone involved,” the social media post said.
