6.1 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan, no immediate news of damage

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan’s eastern county of Hualien on Saturday, the island’s meteorological administration said, with no immediate reports of damage.

The earthquake shook buildings in the capital, Taipei. The weather administration said the earthquake’s depth was 24.9 km (15.5 mi).

More than 1,000 aftershocks have struck Taiwan since a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Hualien earlier this month, killing 17 people.
