The Bengal government has challenged the court-monitored CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) investigation into land grab and extortion cases in Sandeshkhali. According to details published on the apex court website, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta will hear the special leave petition on April 29. In an order passed in the second week of April, the Calcutta High Court directed the CBI to initiate its own investigation in the case after forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the purpose. A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya asked the investigating agency to submit a detailed report to the High Court, after which the High Court will decide on the next course of action. It directed the CBI to open a separate portal and email through which victims in Sandeshkhali can lodge their complaints related to illegal land occupation and extortion, adding that the central agency will maintain complete confidentiality with respect to the identity of the complainants. . It ordered the district administration in North 24 Parganas, including the District Magistrate and the District Superintendent of Police, to identify sensitive areas in Sandeshkhali and install CCTVs.

The Supreme Court will hear today the petition of Delhi CM Kejriwal against the arrest of ED. Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy matter. According to details published on the apex court website, a bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta will hear the case on April 29. Last week, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the AAP supremo, apprised Justice Khanna that as per the status of the computer-generated case, Kejriwal’s plea will be posted for further hearing in the week commencing April 29. Showed as provisionally listed on 6 May, despite court direction to list. In response, Justice Khanna asked the senior counsel to send an email for urgent listing of the matter. “You send an email. We will take it,” Justice Khanna told Singhvi. In her latest affidavit filed before the apex court, the AAP supremo has condemned her arrest as politically motivated, and argued that it unfairly benefits the ruling party during the ongoing elections, which is ‘independent’. And compromises the principle of ‘fair elections’. A prime example of the central government’s misuse of agencies like the ED to suppress political opponents, he reiterated his stand that the ED’s action was part of a concerted effort to weaken the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders.
