Maharashtra: Jarange-Patil announce new round of protests from February 24

Despite the state legislature passing a bill on Tuesday to provide 10% quota to the Maratha community, Manoj Jarange-Patil remained dissatisfied and on Wednesday announced a fresh round of statewide protests starting from February 24. While the bill will stand legal scrutiny, he wants the government to keep the promises made to it regarding inclusion of Marathas in the Other Backward Class category.

From February 24, members of the Maratha community will hold rasta roko (road blockade) across the state daily from 10:30 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm. Jarange-Patil has urged the community not to allow Lok Sabha election campaigning in their villages and to completely ignore the politicians if the government does not accede to their demands within two days. He has also asked them not to indulge in violence during the movement.
