Beirut:

Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group said it launched a drone and missile attack on an Israeli base on Wednesday in response to attacks a day earlier that killed three Hezbollah fighters.

There have been almost daily cross-border firings between Israel and Hamas ally Hezbollah since the war in the Gaza Strip began after the Palestinian group attacked southern Israel on October 7.

But Wednesday’s incident marked the third consecutive day that Hezbollah has carried out attacks in Israel that injured people, escalating regional tensions after Iran launched a direct attack on Israel over the weekend in response to a deadly attack on Tehran’s Damascus consulate.

Hezbollah said it launched a combined attack with guided missiles and explosive drones on a new military reconnaissance command center in the Arab-majority village of Arab al-Aramshe in northern Israel.

The movement said the attack occurred “in response to the killing of a number of resistance fighters in Ain Baal and Shehbia on Tuesday by the enemy”.

Magen David Adom, the Israeli counterpart of the Red Cross, said six people were injured after the attack in western Galilee.

“The six injured are men in their 30s, one of whom is in serious condition,” rescue workers said on Twitter.

“Several projectiles were identified that entered the area of Arab al-Aramshe from Lebanon,” the Israeli military said, adding that it hit the sources of the fire.

On Tuesday, Israel said its strikes in south Lebanon killed two local Hezbollah commanders and another operative, after the Iran-backed group said three of its members were killed as it launched rockets in retaliation.

Local Israeli officials said three people were wounded in the Lebanese attack earlier that day.

On Monday, Hezbollah targeted Israeli troops with explosive devices, wounding four soldiers who had entered Lebanese territory, the first such attack in six months of clashes.

At least 368 people have been killed in Lebanon in the violence, according to an AFP tally, mostly Hezbollah fighters but also at least 70 civilians.

In Israel, the military says 10 soldiers and eight civilians have been killed near the northern border since hostilities began.

The violence has caused thousands of civilians to flee their homes on both sides of the border, raising fears of a full-scale conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, which last went to war in 2006.
