Forest officials in Dehradun on Sunday said efforts to extinguish the forest fire have intensified in the state, especially in the worst-hit areas of Nainital, Haldwani and Ramnagar forest divisions.

The forest fire is slowly being controlled and in many areas the fire has already been extinguished. He said the fire in Marora and Khanana civil areas in Maniknath range of Narendranagar forest division has been completely extinguished.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, after reviewing the situation in the Kumaon region on Saturday night, said that the forest fire in Nainital and surrounding areas is being gradually brought under control after the deployment of Indian Air Force helicopters for fire extinguishing operations on Saturday morning. According to the Indian Air Force, a Mi-17 V5 helicopter has been deployed in Nainital and surrounding areas to extinguish the flames.

Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat said that apart from Indian Air Force helicopters and Army personnel, Provincial Guard volunteers and Home Guard personnel have also been deployed to help in the fire-fighting operations.

He said two additional government vehicles each have been provided to the three forest divisions to send fire fighting teams to the affected areas.
