Tehran:

Iranian emergency services rescued 21 Sri Lankan crew from a ship that capsized in a heavy storm in the Gulf of Oman, state media reported on Wednesday.

The Cook Islands-flagged ship carrying oil ran aground about 50 kilometers (30 miles) off the southern city of Jask, the official IRNA news agency said.

“A rescue ship was dispatched to the area and 21 crew members were rescued,” Mohammed Amin Amani, director of the Jask Ports and Maritime Administration, was quoted as saying.

“The five people who required medical care” were treated by Jask emergency services and the physical condition of these sailors is in good condition, he said.

Torrential rain has lashed the Strait of Hormuz, Oman and the United Arab Emirates since Monday and flooding has killed at least 18 people in Oman.
