Israel Defense Forces’ top lawyer warns troops about ‘unacceptable conduct’ in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces’ top lawyer issued a warning to commanders on Wednesday against cases of “unacceptable conduct” by soldiers in the Gaza Strip.

According to a report by The Times of Israel, Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi said, “We have faced cases of unacceptable conduct that deviate from the IDF’s values ​​and protocols.”

According to Tomer-Yerushalmi, these disorderly conducts include “inappropriate statements that encourage unacceptable incidents; inappropriate use of force, including against detainees; looting, including use of private property for non-operational purposes or removal; and its opposite involves the destruction of civil property.” For protocol.”

“Some incidents go beyond the disciplinary scope and cross criminal lines,” he warned.

Tomer-Yerushalmi said, “These acts and statements from individuals who do not represent the collective are contrary to the IDF as a professional, ethical and respectful army, and they have no place in the IDF.”

He said that these acts “cause strategic damage to the State of Israel and the IDF in the international arena, the seriousness of which is difficult to overstate.”

Major General Tomar-Yerushalmi further said that these cases are being investigated. If found to be true, the Military Advocate General Corps will decide whether criminal or disciplinary measures need to be taken against the guilty commanders.

The top lawyer’s comments came a day after IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Harzi Halevi sent a message to troops in which he said the army was “not on a killing spree,” was not carrying out retaliatory actions and was not It is committing genocide in Gaza. The war against Hamas is in its fifth month.
