Kerala: IMD issues warning of high temperatures in parts of the state

India Meteorological Department Amid scorching heat in parts of the state, a high temperature warning was issued for the next five days in 12 districts of Kerala on Sunday, PTI reported.

According to PTI, according to the IMD and Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, there is a possibility of heat wave in some areas in Kollam, Palakkad and Thrissur districts of Kerala.

The maximum temperature is likely to be around 41 degrees Celsius in Palakkad district, 40 degrees Celsius in Kollam and Thrissur districts, 38 degrees Celsius in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode and Kannur districts and 37 degrees Celsius in Alappuzha, Ernakulam. Malappuram and Kasaragod districts, and Thiruvananthapuram district will record around 36 degrees Celsius (3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal) during April 28 to May 2, 2024, weather agencies said, according to PTI.

He said that due to high temperature and humidity levels, these districts, except the hilly areas, are expected to experience hot and humid weather conditions from April 28 to May 2.

Additionally, heat wave conditions are likely to occur at one or two places within Kollam, Palakkad and Thrissur districts, especially on April 28 and 29, the news agency reported on Sunday.

Odisha is in the grip of extreme heat

Meanwhile, according to PTI, officials said Odisha remained in the grip of scorching heat on Thursday with Jharsuguda recording a maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in Baripada was 43.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Nuapada (43.5), Talcher (43.4), and Boudh (43.2), the news agency had earlier reported.

According to the Bhubaneswar-based Meteorological Centre, parts of Odisha including Kendrapara, Cuttack and Bolangir cities recorded a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius.

According to PTI, officials said the maximum temperature will rise by 2-4 degrees in the next four days.

“The loo It will continue across the state from April 26 to 29,” Meteorological Center director Manorama Mohanty said, PTI had earlier reported.

A red alert of extreme heat was issued for nine districts including Gajapati, Ganjam, Balasore and Mayurbhanj.

The weather center has advised people to take precautionary measures while going out between 11 am and 3 pm.
