At least three tornadoes have been recorded since Thursday, hitting areas near Bird City, Kansas, Yoder, Wyoming and Akron, Colorado, according to the National Weather Service. As the week progresses, further storm activity is expected, especially across the eastern portion of the Plains, potentially leading to additional tornadoes and hail.

Looking into Saturday, the risk of severe weather has increased, with storms expected to bring frequent lightning and strong wind gusts across the central Mississippi Valley as well as the central and southern Plains.

It is important for residents of these areas to remain alert, stay updated on weather advisories, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issued a disaster emergency declaration due to the severe weather.

Governor Kelly said, “I encourage all Kansans to have an emergency kit and a family plan to prepare for tornadoes.” Kelly advised, “Stay updated about local weather conditions by listening to NOAA Weather Radio or local TV and radio stations. Once the warning is activated, it is important to take cover.”
