On the basis of BJP candidate’s FIR, police reached Kamal Nath’s residence.

Almost at the same time as Election Commission of India (ECI) flying squad officials searched a helicopter carrying Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Tamil Nadu on Monday, a unit of Madhya Pradesh Police reached the residence of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath. Chhindwara after FIR was registered against the assistant.

MP Police said an FIR (First Information Report) was lodged against Kamal Nath’s personal assistant RK Miglani for conspiring to circulate a fake video about BJP’s Chhindwara candidate Vivek ‘Bunty’ Sahu.

The police action against Kamal Nath just three days before voting has raised concerns about the integrity of the upcoming elections. Voting is to be held in Chhindwara on 19 April.

Notably, Sahu had earlier contested against Nath in the assembly elections and lost.

According to the FIR, Miglani and a local journalist conspired to circulate a fake pornographic video of Sahu. However, the police did not reveal much about the case.

Soon after police officers in half a dozen vehicles reached Kamal Nath’s Shikarpur residence, Kotwali police station in-charge Umesh Golhani said, “It was a routine visit in connection with a complaint received recently.”
