The Great Indian Kapil Show: Declining viewership puts Kapil Sharma’s Netflix comeback in jeopardy
The Great Indian Kapil Show: India’s top comedian Kapil Sharma has been entertaining audiences for over a decade with his popular Comedy Nights with Kapil and later The Kapil Sharma Show. As the era of television was ruled by his hilarious cast, Kapil Sharma decided to embrace the rise of OTT platforms and made a significant change to Netflix with his new show, The Great Indian Kapil Show.
After months of promotion, the first episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show was released in March, but it received a disappointing response. According to Netflix’s Global Top 10 list, the first episode, which features Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, his mother Neetu Kapoor and sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahan, received a viewership of 2.5 million.
According to an analysis by The Indian Express, during the second week, The Great Indian Kapil Show’s rank dropped from third to fifth position, with total viewership of 4.6 million and views of 2.6 million. Team India captain Rohit Sharma joined the second episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, who made interesting revelations behind the scenes of Indian cricket.
In the third week, The Great Indian Kapil Show dropped to number seven and total viewer hours dropped to 4.1 million. Views increased significantly during the third week and recorded 1.7 million. As the show nears completion of its first month, viewership has dropped to 3.9 million and views to 1.2 million.
Kapil Sharma’s Netflix performance has been weak compared to television or YouTube, where his videos have very rarely crossed 10 million views.

The new episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, which is scheduled to release tonight, is much awaited as it stars famous actor Aamir Khan. The trailer of the episode released on Tuesday has already generated excitement among fans, and the YouTube response suggests that the numbers are expected to increase.
