There will be protests if his party’s Satara candidate is arrested: Sharad Pawar

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday said he will ensure democratic protest in every taluka of Maharashtra if his party’s candidate from Satara, Shashikant Shinde, is arrested, news agency PTI reported.

Speaking at a Lok Sabha election 2024 rally in Satara, Pawar said a case was registered against Shinde in the “APMC FSI case” on Friday night.

“Attempts are being made to stop him from contesting the elections. If that happens and he is arrested, I will ensure that every taluka (tehsil) protests democratically,” the veteran politician said.

He further said, people need to be alert and bring change in the government through the ballot box because democracy is in danger.

According to PTI report, Shinde said in his speech that no matter how many cases are filed against him, he will never spare Sharad Pawar.

The BJP has fielded Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, from this western Maharashtra constituency.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said Shiv Sena (UBT) should be ashamed for disregarding Bal Thackeray’s principles and voting for Congress.

Congress has fielded Varsha Gaikwad from Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha seat, from where Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray is a voter.

Gaikwad had met Thackeray on Friday and assured him of victory.

Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress are part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, which also includes the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP).
Speaking at a massive rally ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Kolhapur, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shinde said the move was a deviation from Bal Thackeray’s resolve not to let the (undivided) Shiv Sena become like the Congress.

Maharashtra Chief Minister said, “Shiv Sena (UBT) should be ashamed of itself.”

Speaking at the rally, Shinde said the PM has selflessly dedicated himself to the service of the country while the opposition lacks any kind of leadership.

Criticizing the position of Rahul Gandhi and Congress, he said that the oldest party is like a seed which is creating discord.
