Two killed, three injured as speeding SUV overturns on Samriddhi Expressway

At least two people died and three were seriously injured when a speeding SUV collided with a divider and overturned. Samriddhi Expressway is in Nashik district of Maharashtra On Thursday morning, the police said, reported PTI.

At the time of the incident, the SUV was going to Nashik from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra.

This accident happened in Khamble Shivar village near Sinnar city.

According to PTI, a police officer said that as the driver of the ill-fated vehicle lost control, it crossed the divider, broke the side barrier and overturned.

The people traveling in the SUV were residents of Karodi village in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

The deceased were identified as Bajirao Eknath Gangurde (65), who died on the spot, and Nisha Ramkisan Gatkal (20), who died during treatment at the hospital.

One of the injured has been admitted to a private hospital in Sinnar and the other two have been admitted to the District Civil Hospital in Nashik, the official said.

Several accidents have been recorded on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samriddhi Expressway since the inauguration of its first phase in December 2022, the news agency reported on Thursday.
