Wrestler Sakshi Malik included in Time magazine’s 100 most influential people

Olympic medalist Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik has been listed among the 100 most influential people of 2024 Time magazine.

Sakshi, India’s only female Olympic medalist in wrestling, has been honored by BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for her tireless fight against alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers.

Sakshi, along with two-time World Championships bronze medalist Vinesh Phogat and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Bajrang Punia, led a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against Singh for allegedly intimidating and harassing India’s women wrestlers. But demanded his arrest for sexual harassment.

The protests, which began in January 2023, became a year-long fight against Singh, garnering support and attention both in India and abroad.

A charge sheet was filed against Singh, but he has been denying the allegations.
