4 dead, 7 injured in knife attack in Illinois, USA, suspect in custody

Four people have died and seven others were injured after a man went on a stabbing spree at multiple locations in northern Illinois, police said.

News agency The Associated Press quoted Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd as saying that police have taken a 22-year-old man into custody and are questioning him. He said that the condition of one of the people injured in the attack is critical.

Redd said Rockford police received a medical call at 1:14 p.m. (local time) and additional calls for police and paramedics followed.

He said police were investigating the motive for the attack and ruled out the involvement of more suspects in the case.

“We do not believe there are any other suspects on the run or at large at this particular time. Right now, we have no clear motive as to why this individual committed such a heinous crime.” Said.

“Right now my thoughts are with the families who are suffering loss,” he said.

The stabbing victims were identified as a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man and a 22-year-old man. The police did not reveal their names.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect after police responded to a home invasion call, Sheriff Gary Caruana said.

“The girl ran away from him. She sustained some knife wounds on her hands and face. She is in critical condition. One of the good guys stopped to help her. She sustained some knife wounds. She is being checked,’ ‘ Caruana said of one of the survivors.

Initially, Rockford police said five people were injured. Later, Corey Hilliard, a public information officer with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, said two more victims were injured.

Rockford Police Chief Redd said that not all of the victims had knife wounds and none were shot.

He called on area residents to check their home surveillance camera footage for anything related to the stabbing.
