Hyderabad man gets jail in London for stabbing ex-girlfriend

Sriram Ambarla, a 23-year-old man from Hyderabad, has been sentenced to 16 years in jail for stabbing his ex-girlfriend in London. The woman, Sona Biju, survived the attack, although she was seriously injured.

The incident took place on March 5, 2022, at the ‘Hyderabad Wala’ restaurant, where Sona, a 23-year-old resident of Kerala, was working as a part-time waitress. Sriram entered the restaurant and stabbed him repeatedly.

During court proceedings, prosecutor Ben Holt revealed Sriram’s internet searches, which included questions about killing humans with a knife and “what would happen if a foreigner murdered someone in Britain”.

The search revealed a horrifying picture of the attacker’s intentions before attacking the woman.

The two met in college in Hyderabad and have been in a relationship since 2017. However, due to constant fights, Sona ended her relationship with Shriram. In February 2022, he came to the UK to pursue a master’s degree at the University of East London.

Sriram confesses to the police that he had become angry after Sona expressed her desire to celebrate their breakup. Shriram also threatened to kill her if she refused to marry him.

However, Sona refused to marry him. After this Shriram went to the restaurant where Sona worked, took out a knife and stabbed her nine times. He continued to stab the woman as she lay unconscious on the floor and also threatened staff and other customers who tried to intervene.

The woman underwent six surgeries. His injuries included a 10-inch stab wound to the neck, as well as injuries to his chest, arm, stomach and back.
