External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday held bilateral discussions with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who is on an official visit to India with a focus on enhancing relations between the two countries. During the meeting, Jaishankar expressed optimism over the growing momentum in bilateral relations between India and Ukraine. He highlighted the importance of the Intergovernmental Commission meeting and welcomed Minister Kuleba’s visit as an opportunity to gain insight into the regional situation.

In his opening remarks, the External Affairs Minister said, “…today, after this discussion, we also look forward to the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission. Your visit gives us an opportunity to understand the situation in your own region.. .Our teams have prepared a huge agenda for discussion…”

Responding, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stressed the “traditional friendship” between India and Ukraine while expressing eagerness to explore new avenues of cooperation. They outlined the strategic perspective of the relationship and expressed their intention to revitalize and strengthen existing ties.

“India and Ukraine have been traditional friends, but I think we can and should do much more, not only in the interest of our nations but also in the interest of the global development and security architecture. Kuleba commented, “…we will be eager to restore what existed before the start of the large-scale invasion of Russia and Ukraine. We will be eager to discuss new areas and projects of our cooperation as I Believe that this relationship has a strategic perspective…”

Elaborating on the meeting, Jaishankar posted to X, “Pleased to co-chair with FM @DmytroKuleba the review meeting of our Inter-Governmental Commission.”
Of Ukraine. The importance of further strengthening cooperation in all sectors was noted. Our immediate goal is to bring business back to previous levels. The perspectives on trade, health, science and technology and agricultural cooperation shared today were useful. “We agreed to prepare for the 7th IGC meeting later this year.”

In another post, he said that their bilateral discussions focused on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and its wider implications. “In that context, exchanged views on various initiatives. We also talked about global and regional issues of interest to both of us. Reiterated our commitment to strengthen overall relations, including bilateral cooperation,” he said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister’s visit to India
