Rameshwaram cafe blast case: NIA arrests key conspirator

In a big success, National Investigation Agency (NIA) A key conspirator has been arrested in the Bengaluru Rameshwaram cafe blast case, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.

It said Muzammil Sharif was picked up on Wednesday and detained as a co-conspirator after NIA teams conducted operations at 18 locations, including 12 in Karnataka, five in Tamil Nadu and one in Uttar Pradesh.

The NIA, which took over the case on March 3, had earlier identified the main accused Musavir Shajib Hussain, who carried out the blast.

The statement said it has also identified another conspirator, Abdul Mathin Taha, who is also wanted by the agency in other cases.

“Both men are on the run,” it said.

The NIA investigation has revealed that Muzammil Sharif had provided logistics support to the other two identified accused in the case, including one person. IED blast in cafe located on ITPL RoadBrookfield, Bengaluru, on March 1.

The explosion injured several customers and hotel staff members, some seriously, and caused extensive damage to the property.

“Today, raids were conducted at the houses of these three accused as well as residential premises and shops of other suspects,” the statement said.
It said cash as well as various digital devices were seized during the search.

The NIA said that efforts are on to nab the absconding accused and unearth the larger conspiracy behind the blast.
