Uttarakhand Electricity Commission increased electricity rates by 7 percent

According to the report of news agency ANI, Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased the electricity tariffs by seven percent for 2024-25.

“Electricity tariffs in Uttarakhand have been increased by about seven per cent,” the commission’s acting chairman ML Prasad said on Friday, ANI reported.

However, as per ANI report, there has been no increase in the fixed charges for 4.5 lakh BPL consumers and snowballing consumers.

According to the new rates released by the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission, domestic consumers have been charged 25 paise per unit for electricity consumption up to 100 units, 30 paise per unit from 101 to 200 units and 40 paise per unit from 201 to 400 units.

Last year, Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission had increased electricity tariffs by 9.64 percent for 2023-24.

Meanwhile, an official said three people were arrested on Friday after they were caught trying to set fire to forests in two different areas of the district.

Divisional Forest Officer Abhimanyu said sheep herder Naresh Bhatt was arrested from Tadiyal village in Jakholi area when he was trying to set fire to the forest, PTI reported.

Bhatt confessed that he was setting fire to the forest so that fresh grass could grow for his sheep to graze.

A case has been registered against them under the Indian Forest Act, 1927.

The DFO said two more, Hemant Singh and Bhagwati Lal, were arrested under similar circumstances from Dangwal village, PTI reported.

These days there are forest fires in different parts of Uttarakhand.

A forest official said 54 fire incidents were recorded in the state on Thursday, destroying around 75 hectares of forest land, most of which were located in the Kumaon region, PTI reported.

According to PTI report, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has asked officials in Dehradun to remain alert about forest fire.

Dhami said that other departments should also remain on alert mode to prevent forest fires.

Dhami also called for cooperation from the people to control the fire.
