The Sri Lankan Cabinet on April 26 announced the transfer of the management of the China-built Mattala International Airport to India’s Shaurya Aeronautics (Pvt) Ltd and Russia’s Airports Regional Management Company. Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport was constructed in 2013 at a cost of $209 billion. With financing from China Exim Bank, it has faced challenges since its opening, including minimal flights and environmental concerns.
